MAS can achieve values of 0,171 kWh/kg for energy consumption of extrusion and melt filtration based on customer information with ABS regrind. The comparison with single screw extruders shows clearly a great savings potential in terms of energy consumption, additionally higher level of homogenization of the melt which a twin screw extruder provides. For comparable throughput ranges of a single screw extruder a specific energy consumption of ≥ 0,30 kWh/kg is required. This example shows that there is a huge potential for energy savings of up to 110,000 Euro per annum with the MAS conical co-rotating twin screw extruder. The ROI (Return On Insvestment) is therefore solely based on energy consumption guaranteed within a short period of time.
One of our customers in Bulgaria who is processing LDPE film on an MAS 90 extrusion line and additionally runs other manufacturers extrusion lines. The customer is downright enthusiastic about the quality he can achieve with the MAS extrusion line. This should not come as a surprise!, he is able to charge 80 Euro more per ton for material simply because of higher quality. The company is producing approx. 700 kg/h with the MAS extruder, calculating the advantage based on 8,000 operating hours the additional turnover is 450,000 Euro per annum solely based on better quality output.
One essential advantage of the MAS extruder is the short length of the processing unit. The result being a short residence time of the material in the extruder which positively affects the quality, lowers energy consumption, lowers thermal degradation, and improves colour values (better B*-Value) of the final product. In addition, colour changes can be realized very quickly.
The unique conical co-rotating twin screw design from MAS allows high throughput while running with low screw revolution. this results in consistently lower melt temperatures and reduces thermal degradation, higher mechanical properties, lower specific energy consumption In contrast parallel twin screws need to increase screw speed, leading to higher melt temperatures, increased mechanical stress, and thermal degradation. In summary the MAS conical produces higher quality pellet while using less energy!
The conical co-rotating twin screw extruder has excellent homogenizing capabilities. The good homogenization in combination with the large feeding opening not only allows you to process regrind and pellets but also materials with low bulk densities. Recycling paired with the advantages of a twin screw extruder! Perfect homogenization, stable melt pressure for melt filtration (without melt pump), optimum degassing performance, all achieved with least possible energy consumption.
